The truth about
Hiring an agency: the questions to ask before you sign
The myth
It doesn't matter whose name is on the ad account as long as the agency runs it well.
The truth
Your ad accounts, analytics and Google Business Profile should be owned by you, with the agency added as a user.
When an agency owns the account, they keep your data, your history and sometimes your phone tracking numbers when you leave.
Check this yourself
- Log into Google Ads → Admin → Access and security.
- Your own email should be listed with Admin access.
- If you can't log in at all, ask for admin access in writing today.
What I'd do in your shoes
- Own every account. Grant access, never hand it over.
- Ask for one-page monthly reports in plain English: spend, leads, cost per lead.
- Avoid long contracts without a trial period.
Questions
What if my agency refuses to give me access?+
That's your answer. A good agency has nothing to hide in your account.
How long should an agency contract be?+
Start with a short trial or month-to-month. Earn the long contract with results.
